So World of Warcraft makes a blizzillion dollars a year. (Blizzillion, get it? Blizzard, billion … meh.) Who’s going to knock them off the mountain? Probably nobody. But, if anyone is going to give them a fight, it’s going to be Mythic Entertainment and Warhammer Online. People are just itching for something new. Check out this head-to-head at Amazon: Amazon meters WotLK vs WAR. Players want this game – too bad so many of them are douche bags. I quit playing WoW because its player base is the PC equivalent to Halo 3 players on Xbox Live. And it turns out, those same people came slithering out of the cracks in their nerd caves when Mythic announced some substantial cuts to the game recently. Four capital cities and four classes got cut from WAR. Last I heard, the game was still in development. You know, the time when developers tweak things, work out bugs, cut stuff. You’d think Mythic went to these mouse jockeys’ houses and stabbed their kittens. People actually made posts like this one, lame post, where the dude says his “faith in Mythic was a little rocked.” Huh? He asks what Mythic can do to “regain your trust,” like Mythic is his girlfriend and went off and fucked Blizzard when he was off working at Gamestop. This is why I am a perpetual lurker in forums. These entitlement generation whiners think that they are always owed something. I get so pissed, but I’d be posting all damn day if I let myself retaliate. In another big announcement, Flagship Studios layed off all of its employees. This is the company behind the term flagshipped, and the overly ambitious Hellgate: London. There were assholes all over gaming sites spouting off things like this tidbit of intelligence from a guy replying to somebody who didn’t share his view on Flagship’s demise: “Hi, Flagship's cock is that way, feel free to suck it. Self righteous banter such as yours makes me want to fucking vomit. The critical flaw in your argument is that you think companies such as Flagship "contribute" to our hobby. That is not the case. They are bloodsucking assholes looking to completely rape our fellow gamers out of their hard earned dollars. So, yes, I'm going to gloat. I'm going to laugh my fucking ass off that these slimeballs got what they fucking deserved. Spoiled, crass, and shallow... I guess that's boot licking toady, sychophant speak for actually expecting a game to deliver on its promise, in exchange for the money we worked hard to earn. Seriously, get the fuck outta here with that stoolboy attitude.” People approach this insignificant hobby of their own volition. Nobody forces gamers to buy Warhammer Online or Hellgate: London -- to make personal investments. I don’t understand how people can talk about something like this in the language that they do. Trust. Are you fucking kidding me? “Rape our fellow gamers?” This isn’t Sudan. There aren’t fanatical Flagship employees running around “raping” gamers to spread their seed. What the hell is wrong with people? How about Flagship was overly ambitious, made a bug-ridden, crappy game and then folded. It’s that simple. Unless there’s a story out there I haven’t heard about, Flagship CEO Bill Roper didn’t hold a gun to anybody’s head and force them to buy his stupid game. I’ve said this before, there’s no inalienable right to good games. If you are too stupid to avoid an over-hyped, poorly designed, cliché of a game, then maybe you deserve to “get raped out of your money.” There’s even a demo out for Hellgate, so there’s no excuse. NONE. I can’t fathom how someone can using language like they are discussing civil rights violations or erosion of the Constitution. Game developers never “promise,” anything. Not once has Mythic “promised” to ship WAR with 24 classes and 6 cities. NOT ONCE. Obviously, for a long time they had intended to ship the game in that state, but they changed their minds. This language bubbles up from the minds of spoiled brats who have no perspective, whose realm of existence doesn’t extend beyond their own faces. It doesn’t come from the developers. They don’t promise a damn thing. They don’t ask for trust. They are game developers, they want people to play their games. It’s that simple. It sucks, because I really want to look forward to WAR. But, if the forum banter is any indication, this game will be overrun with spoiled idiot Americans. And looking back at this rant, I realize I’m no better. I’ve got nothing better to do but bitch about insignificant forum bickering. At least I’m aware of the pettiness of the situation. Ah, screw it. Xbox Live is calling … |
